Experimenting at Home

I love jersey fabric, which is probably no secret anymore.  It is so damn comfortable it's like wearing pyjamas or sweatpants only in a nice skirt or dress.  Not that pyjamas can't be nice.  I decided to wear a jersey maxi skirt today, and I realise I am dressed as a bruise-black and blue.  That's rather fitting since I bruise myself frequently and usually have no memory of doing it.  Such a delicate flower I am!

So this is me at home, usually barefoot, bra strap showing, glasses come on and glasses go off and I have to go hunting for them.  Amazingly, at the moment I know where my glasses are because they are on my face.  Where my lens cap is, well that's something I don't know.

I got my hair cut yesterday, and decided to experiment with a smokey eye.  You know I don't bother with much makeup but I do like a smokey eye.  I can't be bothered with mascara, just a nice smudgey liner pencil is all I need.  I can even dip into my artist charcoal if necessary.  It is common wisdom, and I like to think I have uncommon wisdom so I don't usually follow this rule, that short hair needs more makeup in order to look girly.  I don't think I am easily mistaken for a boy so I generally don't worry about that but today I am pairing a smokey eye with my edgy new do!  In January I had a shorter pixie cut.  I wanted it a little longer so he took out more bulk than length.  I don't know if this still qualifies as a pixie but it's very me.

  1. I like the hair and the eyes! I love the idea of jersey fabric, but on my body it clings, and I don't love that. Your skirt is great, though!

    1. Thank you! I am a pixie cut girl at heart. Jersey is more forgivng if it is a heavier kind and definitely the right underwear is required. Thong or granny panties-lol or a slip. I own neither so I would leave home in this skirt today! I have no bum so that is probably also why I am not as self conscious in a jersey fabric. Though sometimes it really emphasises the lack of bum and then I am self conscious. We are so hard on ourselves and our bodies. I grew up very conservatively and have a really big fear of looking slutty. In fact even my mum thinks my fear is a bit out of proportion.

  2. I'm first ! happy dance...well I have a pair of jersey pants and I wear them non stop in the summer. So comfy! hair do is the best since I started following. I used to be like you conserning make up but the more ii blog the more I experiment and now I won't go out without mascara at least and never go to work without eye liner and red lipstic. It has become my signature make up. maybe down the road you will feel the same! Well smokey eyes and barefoot makes for a hot combination! Enjoy your short hair and stay away from bruises.

    1. If I have accidentally achieved hotness I shall not complain! My last haircut was in January and it was a shorter pixie. I decided I needed a bit more hair but wasn't sure how much. I'm a pixie cut girl at heart though so it turned out not to be much more hair that was required. I have already been through my heavier makeup experimental phase in my twenties. I still went for a 'natural' look but I used all the products out there. I've settled into what feels right for me. If I use lipstick it's a soft pink and if I do my eyes I go for soft smokey.
I have been somewhat accident prone my whole life. I doubt I can stay away from bruises!

  3. I think we can all agree that all of our lens caps are having a party together somewhere and snickering at us. Pompous lens caps.

Love the wispiness of your bangs.

  5. It's a new pose! Well, new to me...on the coffee table. I thought that was a real dog behind you at first :-) I love your hair. It's still longer but more whispy. Hopefully more manageable and less mushroomy! Otherwise I could have had you in my last post! I must confess I can't see very much makeup on your eyes, but maybe the aforementioned comment attests to the fact that I am nearly blind! :-)

    1. You might be nearly blind, my dear but I am also really very poor at putting on loads of makeup. I do it oh so subtly and think it's way too much. I wipe half of it off after I put it on. It's a new pose for me too. The lazy pose. Or maybe it's I don't know where I put my glasses so I'd better just sit down pose.
I'm not like all the other mushrooms, I'm a very tall species.

  6. You know Shawna, like you, I never really got into makeup. But this year, I got a really cool pair of specs and now I'm experimenting with color on my eyes too. We women :) Stop by the blog, I'm having an interesting give-away that you might be interested in.

    1. I did makeup in the eighties and abandoned it in the nineties. I usually can't be bothered but it sometimes a bit of fun to play with eye makeup.

  7. I really like this outfit (I am also a jersey lover- especially for a maxi skirt!). And while I can completely relate for not wanting to go all out with the make up all the time, I must say, the smokey eye looks great on your! (As does your hair cut!)

PS- I never know where my lens cap is.

    1. Thanks! I tend to have a very light hand with makeup so when I think I am going bold people usually say, what makeup, where? I found my lens cap-yay!

    1. My house is not messy, so things are eventually found. I just tend to be very inconsistent about where I put things down.

    1. I am quite pleased with Jason and he is also a sweetie with the most adorable three year old daughter and he's getting married soon and so excited about it. How adorable!
I only need my glasses for close up too, though that's why I tend to lose them, because of taking them off all the time. I got some progressive lenses with my very slight distance prescription for the left eye added to them. That way I can leave them on my face most of the time but don't have to wear them half way down my nose like I do with my other glasses.

  10. Your hair is looking very pretty, Shawna, as are your eyes! I can't do eyeshadow, it all creases up after about an hour and I end up wiping it off. Can't do jersey fabric either, it doesn't have enough substance or structure for me, but that skirt looks beautiful on you, and the scooped neckline and colour of the top are very flattering on you too. Lovely! xxx

    1. Thank you Curtise! I don't bother with eye shadow. My idea of a smokey eye is to take a taupy-brown-grey eye crayon and make a smudgy line along the lashes and then use my finger and smudge it more and rub half of it off. Maybe I am kind of grunge at heart after all. You have really striking eyes and I don't think they need any eye shadow, though some purple would really make the green pop. How about a smudgy purple eye pencil? Or purple mascara?
