What Happened to your Hair?

There's a reason I tend to prefer second day hair.  In the current state of my growing out pixie I have achieved something a bit helmet like.  It looks like I'm wearing a wig so I think that if I venture out today I had better put on a hat.  Of course, it's just possible that the very bright colours of  my skirt would detract from my hideous hair.

It took me awhile to decide on how to tuck today's outfit.  I tried untucked, semi-tucked and fully tucked.  I decided I liked the semi-tuck best because it suits me to be a little bit deshabille or at least to imagine that I am.  I am the sort who doesn't brush her hair.  But speaking of hair, let me show you the woeful options I have these days while I show you my tucking decision and show off a blouse I dyed and am quite pleased with.

Could I be mistaken for a busty young milk maid?  Probably not without my pail.  This blouse was once white.  This is a much better colour.  I was once obsessed with white blouses.  I seem to be over that.  This is also second day hair.  Flattened with sleep and a few attempts made in the morning to resurrect it, I still prefer it greatly to what you are about to seen next.........

That is a rather displeased face.  Also slightly out of focus.  I'm sure the camera was in shock over that hair!  Here is the untucked version of my pink and orange ensemble.  Also, for me these are very high heels.  I can only walk in them because they are wedges.  I think they are about 3 inches, making me six feet tall though the hair probably makes me six foot one.

And here we are with semi-tuck.  Have you fallen over laughing at that hair yet?
It's time to get some hair bands so I can pretend this bouffant is deliberate.

Fully tucked looks fine, but it feels too formal.  None of this really matters as I am probably not leaving home today.  It's a trial run as this skirt is new to me, but just in case I do leave home I did go to all the trouble of shaving my legs.

I'm off to make a coffee now and read your blogs, lovely people.  Please feel free to ooh and ahh over the fact that I'm not wearing teal and brown.

    1. Blogging should be fun or why do it? Actually that's a good motto for nearly everything. Thanks for the vote on the semi tuck. I am sitting here on the sofa, semi-tucked and busty, no milking pail in sight.

  2. Love that wench top, the colour is fabulous and it looks fab on. I'm dying with envy over those wedges, they really are stunners. What I wouldn't give to be 6' 1"!
The new skirt is rather snazzy, orange and pink are a wonderful colour combination.
Have you tried dry shampoo? The top brand here is Batiste. Its brilliant for messing up freshly washed hair and giving it a bit of attitude. xxx

    1. Vix, the shoes are new but scored in a fabulous sale. My size rarely shows up in the thrift shops and neither do really fabulous shoes. I do have some dry shampoo. In fact I have all sorts of lotions and potions, waxes and such. I sometimes have some success with argon oil too, basically making my freshly washed hair instantly oily-lol. I need to find a dry shampoo that is good for darker hair though as some of them are light and make my hair look a bit grayish.
Height is vastly overrated. I find no use in it whatsoever other than being able to helpfully reach things for strangers when I am in the grocery store.
Oh-the wedges are Franco Sarto, which means absolutely nothing to me at all but I'll tell you just in case that is helpful. LOL
      I think I say fabulous a lot.

    2. Have you got massive feet like me? I also never get thrifted shoes either and it's hideously annoying!!! I'm UK size 8 (I think that is USA 10).
Ha ha, you do make me laugh with your funny writing style- it's fun! I also have hair issues and too am unlikely to brush my hair all day but I look a mess by the end!!! The wedges are cool and I like the busty milkmaid looK!x

    3. I wear a 9.5 and have a narrow heel so shoes tend to slop in the heel and although I've sometimes made do with thrift shop 10s I really need to stop doing that and spend the money on shoes that fit properly. I checked a conversion chart- my size would be 7 UK. Yours would be a 10.5 in US size and I almost never see that. I see 10 and 11 so you would probably find shoe shopping here a nightmare.

  3. I like the new colour of your busty milk maid top, but my favourite outfit is definitely the pink and orange. That skirt is a beauty, and I vote for the half-tuck. If there is a vote. (Speaking of which, don't fret at all about the Vote Vix campaign and Facebook, it's not obligatory! If it's not appropriate for you to post anything at the moment, then of course you shouldn't.)
I'm with Vix, those wedges are wonderful. You look amazingly long and lean and fabulous!
Oh that halfway stage of growing out an old hair do, it's such a pain. I don't think it will be long before the weight of your hair pulls it down rather than pouffing out. Keep at it! xxxx

    1. There is an informal vote-lol. The rule is that you must vote for my preference.
The skirt was a delightful thrift shop find but the shoes are new. I own a bazillion pink tee shirts all slightly different but it took awhile to decide which one was best with this skirt. I think I will have to keep the skirt stuffed in my purse so that when I am shopping I can find things that work with it.
I had some major shoe gaps to fill and should be totally ashamed of how many shoes I've bought recently but I'm not. I got them on sale.

  4. pretty in pink - thats it!
your dye job was very successful - this kind of pink remembers me of milkshake with red and blue berries - love that color.
new skirt is chic and tropical - i prefer untucked, don´t like half things and tucked in a skirt with no waistband seems strange to me.... the wedges are very cool, yet classic. can you wear this outfit at our date at the beach bar? ;-)
be patient with your hair - one morning in the near future you will wake up with the perfect look :-)

  5. Yes, it's like strawberry and blueberry with vanilla ice cream. I love the colour too! Now I thought you would object to the untucked shirt because it doesn't give a long over short or short over long proportion. ;-) Of course sometimes I just say feck it and do what I like.
No I cannot wear those shoes at the beach without causing myself serious injury. LOL. I will go barefoot instead.

  6. I like the untucked version ... but that's probably because it looks the most comfortable ... and I'm all for comfort.
I laughed at your high hair ... I had the same problem yesterday. Usually I straighten it with a vengeance ... but yesterday I couldn't be bothered. When the boys got home from school they just looked at me and asked if I'd only just got out of bed!!!

    1. I like it untucked too but I thought maybe the proportions weren't good. I would probably be most comfortable like that though.

I am too lazy to straighten my hair. I use the sleeping on it method.

  7. I see you sneaked some brown shoes in, or don't they count? I like the untucked shirt, it goes with the tropical feel of the skirt. Don't you love how dying often brings out the details because they don't dye as much? Like the embroidery and buttons. I like the green belt with the pink and navy. Very snazzy. Love your pouffy hair! As Bushy would say, be glad you have some! :-)

    1. Oh damn-when I'm tired I always put my reply in the wrong spot. Brown shoes can't count because I have mostly brown or black shoes-lol. I'm now the proud owner of two pairs of red ones.

  8. You are supposed to be impressed that I'm wearing heels and haven't fallen over! Bushy is no doubt very wise and I shall be grateful for my mushroom head. Yes I do love it that the embroidery didn't take the dye as well and thus it is more noticeable. I like this blouse much more now than I did when it was white.

  9. Tucked or untucked you look fine. I am probable more of an un tucked kind of person, being tucked in requires maintenance and I don't do maintenance. Hair, well that is a whole other story! Sometimes you just need a hat or some dam fine product to make your hair behave!!

    1. It's interesting how the votes for the different tucks are rather evenly distributed. Even my own opinions on them are fairly even except for liking the full tuck least by a smidge.
I think I should get a wig with really long purple hair.

  10. Hahah, I remember my time when I was growing out my pixie. I looked like MacGyver!!!
Love these outfits! The colors in the first one are such a cool bunch! :D Love the green belt mixed in with the blue!
The second one, I like the untucked version better, because it looks kind of effortless and laid back.
And whoa, those wedge sandals are super cute! I want!!!

    1. MacGyver is definitely cute, but maybe not the look you wanted. I am all for effortless and laid back which is probably why the untucked or semi tucked are my preference. I am so damn pleased with myself over those sandals I am sure you can see my smug grin all the way across the continents and the ocean. Apparently they are a semi-serious designer name but I know nothing about that. I know I like them, they are real leather and I got them for $40 in some mega sale where I shamelessly bought three pairs of shoes.

  11. Shawna, you made me laugh! Love that pretty skirt - colors and shape (very unusual). I like it semi-tucked, I think it suits your a bit mischievous personality (yes, there is some little hooligan in you! just look at that picture!). I'd probably try adding a belt if you like to tuck it (but you probably have tried it already).

I think that's right - that's what hats are for! I haven't even started the whole hat/hairpiece/bandana/headscarf quest myself yet. I wore too many hats back in Siberia, got sick of them I suppose. :) But I can definitely see some hats in my future, and in yours too!

    1. LOL-my little inner hooligan is quite delighted at being noticed. I love hats but I tend to approach then more as functional than decorative. I have some nice ones but I only think of wearing them if my head is cold or I need to keep the sun off. When I was a little girl I had very long hair and wore a fabric band in it frequently. I like the simplicity of that.

    1. Yes, even day 3 can be good! Sometimes I wet it but don't shampoo it and that helps control it better too.

  13. Milk maid tops are always the prettiest! and it's a gorgeous colour too, I have one that is indecent (very, very see through and must be worn under something!) your pink and orange outfit is gorgeous! all that tucking/untucking is exhausting though, I much prefer your full tuck, you look lovely, long and lean - growing out hair is a test of patience isn't it? you could wear a tiara or a headband (actually no, a tiara!!) and embrace your wonderful growing out hair, I have grown mine out from a flat top years ago (I didn't ask for it either! over zealous hairdressers!) x x x

    1. Oh my goodness I cannot imagine you with a flat top! What insane hairdresser would do that to you? I was given spikes once in the eighties. I didn't ask for those either. I think a tiara is just the most perfect idea. I must get one ASAP! I wonder if there is a 24 hour princess shop in my town.

  15. A thin belt might give your skirt a less formal look. l also prefer second day hair. I used to have big issues and always wore them in pony tail until I tried hair straightener. A good hair cut always helps! Thanks for reading our boogs and we enjoy your style journey. Once you start thereis no turning back.

    1. Ariane I do not have as nicely shaped head as you do. I can't imagine the horror of shaving my head. I once hacked off most of my hair very short-maybe an inch all over and it was pretty awful. LOL Semi tuck seems to suit my personality, so hopefully it suits my body too!
