Bits and Pieces

I have been fighting a horrible headache for weeks.  I have had one or two days free of it, but today it's back with a vengeance.  It definitely gets in the way of my fun so I've not been as creative as I would like to be though I did get out for a lovely morning and fantastic thrifting experience on one of my non-headache days.

The bit of art I managed looks like this...I have to admit it is done more from memory not while looking at a photo so sorry, Keit, if you look at it and think who the hell is that!

And the non-clothing part of my thrift shop haul is here in this photo...

....not including the books, which are always sitting on my table, nor the earrings in the little box, which I bought new on a sale table.

The pewter drinks set is carved ornately and has some colour added to the images.  Being pewter I can't actually use it but I love it anyhow.

The belt is totally my style and perfect for jeans.

The mug is brass and also has intricate engraved designs on it.

The blue and green pottery vssels just appeal to me for the colour, and you can see in the background I have a blue bowl that is similar.

The little wooden cat will stay indoors instead of joining my outdoor folk art cats.

The large silver bracelet has detailing on it that doesn't show up in the photo, the colourful bracelet is wood and the charm bracelet  will probably have those charms removed and new ones added by me. There are some jumbo hoop earrings too, which I don't think are silver, perhaps surgical steel.

The earrings are purple so of course I had to get them!

  1. Oh Shawna, long standing pain is the very worst! Hope you have some relief soon. In the meantime you can lie down and admire your pretties! Your thrift store has a better homewares section than mine! I love EVERYTHING! You know it would all happily fit in our house. I do love the darling little earrings. You will work them, baby! I can see them with the Turkish inspired pant suit, when it comes into your life :-D I haven't met Keith yet. What is her blog name? Lovely work. You know my detail eye, I like the tufts of hair at the part, and the collar bone :-) wishing you pain free days to come, and hugs from me. XO

    1. It's so annoying when blogger eats the comment. Due to the damn headache I'm keeping my reply short. Thanks for your nice long comment though! Keit can be found if you look in my blog roll on the right, her blog is Beauty in Insanity.

  3. Headaches are a pain in the butt! I have been getting a few niggly ones of late but I am wondering if it is connected to the toothache I am trying to ignore!! I fyour headache will not leave then maybe you should go to your Doctor. Your picture is good, glad you are still being arty Shawna.

    1. If I had butt pain and head pain then I think I'd really be complaining! I hope you get something done about your toothache. A toothache is not nice! My doctor knows I get a lot of headaches so the deal is that I go if something is unusual about them. Lasting a long time is a bit unusual so if this keeps up I will go and see him.

  4. I immediately knew this was me! :D No kidding! I look Hot! :D Have you tried some painkillers? When I have an irritating pain, especially those special once in a month time pains, I drug myself like a hobo and wait to pass out :D Maybe not the greatest idea...
And omg, this belt looks like something The Witcher would wear. I just bought an armor that has the exact same belt, lol :D

    1. LOL-I'm glad you like it. I have been taking loads of painkillers but they haven't really gotten rid of it. Sometimes they get it down to something I can live with though. So far today, no headache. Crossing my fingers.
I have know idea what The Witcher is but I've always wanted to be a witch. Is it similar? Can I be a witch if I wear that belt?

  8. Sorry to hear about the headache, and I hope it passes soon. Could it be related to pollen or grass allergies? This time of year can be really bad. Some people around here stay indoors popping Benadryl all through June.

At least you're still doing some fun things. The pastel drawing is great, and your shopping looks like it netted you some real treasures!

    1. Thanks Val, I have to admit that with M.E., PMS for half the month and severe allergies, I get headaches a lot. This time of year is indeed bad for allergies and I take a Doctor approved cocktail of prescription and over the counter remedies.

Maybe the headaches will keep me from doing too much shopping!

    1. Thank you, I'm sure it will. It is better today so I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it lasts. I laughed when you said it looked like I found a pirate treasure chest as it made me think of how much my son used to love playing pirate and I would round up things for him to use as treasure. I will have to show him my own latest treasures!

    2. I got myself a drawing notebook which is good for a variety of media... Feeling like doodling lately. :) I am very not confident about my abilities to draw, unless they are just fast funny doodles which I do plenty... So it's a new step. Will attend an art class some time, perhaps next year. I want the one which teaches you to draw just from your heart - I am not especially interested in learning techniques at this point. Hopefully the new community where we plan to move will help with that. :) Just wanted to share with you :)

    3. That's very exciting! The best art class I ever took was not at all about technique. It was about liberating your creativity. IN the meantime have fun playing around and drawing. Just doing it is the best thing. I am happiest when I just create without any feeling of having to achieve something.
