Feeling Hot Hot Hot

I don't really  much care for heat and anybody who likes it would laugh that I find our current weather hot as it's pushing 30 degrees  I usually have the ocean breeze but it is rather still today so I've got the elecrtic fans on.  Sophie is impervious to the weather and insists on cuddling, which makes me even hotter.  So I began the day dressed like this....
This is a very Shawna look.  I've had this blouse for at least five years but it was a pale blue I didn't care for so I dyed it.  It's really soft, which is probably what appeals to me most, but it's also a peasant style which I tend to favour.

I got a bit experimental and tried this...
Which is okay, but I didn't like it as much.  I think the other way was more flattering and it was definitely more comfortable.

Then by noon I was much too hot and changed into shorts.  I am in love with these shorts because they kind of seem like a skirt and the fabrics just send me into swoons of ecstasy.  I bought all four different colours, I loved them so much.

Here are the other three.  I think these shorts are so fabulous because they can be dressed up or down.  They are extremely comfortable and perfect for warm weather but because they are also rather like a short skirt I will probably try them with tights and a tunic in the cooler weather.

It's definitely time for another haircut and I have an appointment next week.  I have stopped growing out my hair.  It seems I am a short hair sort of woman, which of course I already knew, but the first pixie was just a bit too short for my comfort.

I am wearing two mismatched earrings today, just for fun. They don't show up in the pictture but in each ear I have one white gold stud, a yellow gold sleeper and then in my left ear it's a little silver cat and the right ear one of my silver celtic knots.

I gave up trying to get these photos well focused.  Sorry about that.  You'll forgive me?  Thanks.   I should have used the tripod.  I'll stop apologising now.

I wear these rings all the time and rarely take them off.  I'm so hot today that in order to get them off I needed soap whereas they usually slip about on my fingers a little.  There is a story or memory attached to every piece I have, though not always anything that is worth sharing.   In the locket that is my son at age 8.  My beloved little boy is a wonderful young man now, but of course he will always be my baby.

  1. We've had 95+ weather all week and I definitely am NOT into it. Fortunately I'm in the Deep South so we take our AC very seriously.
I love those shorts, Shawna, and you've got legs for days in them! I'd skip the skirt and just go directly for the shorts ;-)

  2. Very Shawna, blue and white. It seems you already know what is you. So wear it! Don't worry about what others think. You should feel comfortable, and then it will look good no matter what the proportions or colours etc. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
That skirt is very flattering with its fishtail shape and the chevron lines.
I loooooove those shorts! Every one of them. And they definitely suit you.
I was wearing odd earrings yesterday because I lost one of a favourite blown glass pair. I find it difficult because I like to be symmetrical (aspie quirk), but I want to wear my earring! Your little silver drops worked well together.
It can be hard to photograph shiny things. Seems it upsets the auto focus.
Enjoy your heat wave :-) I laugh, because when we lived in Rotorua it was the same. They are rainy and cold most of the time, but occasionally it creeps up to 30 in summer. They wilted, and we Aussies thought it was barely summer! Mind you,the 40 degrees we get is just too hot!!
Hope today is better for you :-) XO JJ

    1. Forty degrees nearly kills me. I just lie there in a stupor moaning. LOL I don't enjoy 30 but I don't wilt until it hits 35.

I like symmetry too, but my own hair has cured me of being obsessed with it because try as I might I can never make my hair symmetrical. My son is obsessed with that too. I only have one of the little sliver cats. It actually belongs on a charm bracelet but I thought I'd try it as an earring and of course it doesn't have a partner.

Could you make your earring into a pendant for a necklace? Then you can wear it and not be asymmetrical. I bought a charm bracelet second hand and am going to put all my single earrings onto it.

If I worried what others think I would not have worn at least half the things I've worn in my life. I only care what I think but I am my own worst critic. LOL

    2. charm bracelet from orphan earrings!!! genius! why did i not think of that - sometimes i don´t see the forest because of the trees.......

    3. Well trees are lovely so we must pay attention to them too! It's funny how the best ideas are really simple ones that someone else thinks up and we slap our foreheads and ask ourselves why we didn't think of it ourselves!

  3. The heat is unbearable here, too. Nice shorts. I thought they were a skirt. And thanks for the smart comments you leave on my blog. Really insightful stuff.

    1. They pretty much look like a skirt and I have to treat them like one in that I must still sit like a lady! I hope I don't write too much in my comments but sometimes you hit on topics that could get me talking forever!

  4. I love getting dressed in the morning but when 2 or 3 oclock hits in the heat I have to take all the layers off too. I think I'd have a hard time living in a hot climate like Arizona year round.

    1. I like spring and fall best, or the many days of summer here where the temps are a bit lower than today. I like a mild climate without extremes but then my idea of extreme heat is still cool for someone who lives in Arizona. LOL

  5. The first outfit is just adorable! Very you, and very flattering. The shorts are cute - such richly colored fabric!

I don't like heat. Such days are perfect for only one thing - to spend them on the beach!!! That's what Anna and I did, two days as beach bums and explorers of parks, and we are very happy (though tired) at the end! :-) Otherwise, I would be miserable as our home doesn't have air conditioner and gets uncomfortable in extremely hot days (which thank goodness we almost never have :)))

    1. We live in the right area for non-heat lovers but there will always be a few very hot days in summer. It's often cooler at the beach due to the breezes but when it isn't I can find the beach too hot a place, with no shade. While I don't have air conditioning I usually do have a good breeze and it is always cooler in my apartment than outside, or at least it's like that in the summer. It's perfectly warm in winter.
I have once resorted to a cold shower and then standing naked and wet in front of the electric fan. That certainly does the job for cooling me down if I'm desperate. LOL One can't do that all day though.

  6. love this shorts! all of them. the print is so fab and summery. but tights will kill that vibe.... maybe chambray gray cotton leggings would work.... oooh i can see you wearing that with a peasant blouse and a light gray hoody and jewelry made from shells. messy hair like from swimming in saltwater..... beautiful bohemian beach bump :-)
here is hot too but i love warm weather! while typing this i sit in the shade of the terrace roof in the tiniest madras check boxers ever and a yoga bustier. but if someone comes to visit i would trow on a dress or camisole - depends on who is coming :-)

that locket with the cute pic of your son is soooo romantic!!!

    1. Bohemian beach bump sounds like I'm pregnant. I think it's a bohemina beach bum that we want me to be. LOL I don't look too good in light gray though so we have to modify this outfit a little.

I was thinking sheer black tights, boots and a slouchy sweater as contrast to the delicate fabric and detailed prints of the shorts, treating them like they are a mini skirt. I must admit that is not beach attire! LOL That's for heading to the cafe to work on my writing in the autumn.

I will imagine you in your skimpy hot weather outfit, happily sitting in the shade, but I need to know what you have to drink and what you are reading. Or doing. Or perhaps you are meditating.

    1. I think my boy is still cute at nearly 20 but he was heartmeltingly adorable when he was little. Oh okay, my heart still melts now, I confess.

I love rain, but only spring rain. Winter rain gets a bit tiresome and we have lots of it here. Today it's dropped a few degrees and I like that much better.

  8. Too hot at 30 degrees?? That's just pleasantly warm ;0)
We had a New Years Day a few years ago that hit 45 degrees ... now that was hot!!!

    1. LOL-well I suspect one can and does become a bit acclimatised but 45 would probably make me cranky and it's not easy to make me cranky. I'm so mellow I'm nearly comatose.

  9. I love those shorts! They look really great on you. I don't mind the heat, but I definitely prefer a mild summer day. I would rather not sweat while I'm sitting and doing nothing. But since it gets so cold here in the winter, I try not to complain too much!

    1. Thanks, they are darn comfy too! I hear ya about not sweating while sitting doing nothing. I hate that! We don't get really cold here in winter but definitely grey and wet so I do appreciate the spring and summer. I just prefer the days when it's more like 75 degrees. LOL Eighty is okay but not my preference. Above that is intolerable!
Isn't the internet for complaining? I could have sworn it was considering all the trolls who live on it!

  10. Shawna I can see exactly why you fell in love with those shorts. They would look great in winter, too. I 'm versatile with my rings and bangles but I always wear the same pair of earrings. Your baby must be about the same age as mine and God they grow fast!

    1. My baby is nearly 20! What a shock-lol. I do change my earrings but I will leave the same pair in for long stretches of time. Especially if I am just home. I often favour earrings which I can leave in overnight because I'm lazy but I hate empty holes. It would be so annoying if I woke up and forgot to put in my earrings, especially if I went out like that. It would mean I would have to pop into a store and buy a pair!

  11. I am good for nothing in hot temperatures, though they don't happen that often here! Love your floaty blue and white outfit, but look how you are rocking those cool shorts! Always good to see your wonderful legs, Shawna! xxx

    1. You are silly but sweet. My legs are no better than yours, which I think look great, and you don't show yours very often either!

Our temps have cooled down-yay! LOL Low twenties is much preferable.

  12. No, I'm not good in extreme heat either, I sit in it for about 5 minutes, fidget and go in! ha! but, you do get to wear those awesome shorts though! fab blue and white outfit too , the heat makes my fingers swell, what's all that about! x x x

    1. I do that same thing, fidget and then go in! I hate going to the beach just to sit in the sun. Obviously I am not a sun tanner. Baste with oil, flip and broil.

Heat makes my feet, ankles and fingers swell. Not fair!
