Officially Peeved with Bloglovin'

I am interrupting the regularly scheduled programme, and making my second post of the day, to complain about Bloglovin'

I had been using it eons ago, but when I started up this blog I just kept track of new posts on the blogs I follow with my blog reading list on the side.  But then my reading list got so big I couldn't so I went back to Bloglovin'

In the few months I've been back there it has dumped people from my list and it takes me awhile to figure that out as I just think oh, she is taking a break from posting.  It also neglects to show anything in my feed for days and then suddenly I have over a hundred and posts going back three days or more.

GAAAHHHH!  I get behind sometimes anyway because when I am tired it is oddly much easier to post my own blog than it is to read and comment on others so although I may post something, I might be faking that I am full of energy and getting things done.

Is anyone else having this trouble with Bloglovin' and are there alternatives I don't know about?

I will try to get caught up in my reading this weekend because a quick glance shows me I've been missing some good stuff!

Self Portrait:  That's Me in the Corner

  1. I looooove this self portrait! So soft, and closeup. I don't use Bloglovin, so can't help you there. I've had to restrict my blog list, as it consumes so much of my energy already. I just run down the side of my blog and check who has recent posts. Sorry you've been discombobulated! XO JJ

    1. LOL-well I am soft. Mushy even! I am working at visiting blogs and trying to be dis-discombobulated. It's my Canadian politeness you see, I must respond to everyone who comments on my blog and then I must visit everyone I know on their blogs and comment too because if I don't the world will end or polar ice caps will melt or something like that.

  2. Shawna!! You spoil me with all the love! Thank you so much for visiting my blogs, my shop, on and on! Thank you for buying one of my calligrams too! That lonely little moon will be SO HAPPY to live in my most favorite place in the world, Vancouver Island. I love it there. Learned how to fish in the early 70s at Maple Bay and now we love to stay in a place at Cowichan valley. You are so lucky over there across the water! We would come more often but the darn ferry prices are horrendous. We usually sail out of Twassen.
I'm a new fan of Munro but love her. Did you meet her! I must tell my mom that she lived near you.
I'll be shipping your print on Monday, with surprises of course.
    Your friend,
    Joni

    1. Joni, I was just horrified when I found you had been posting and I had been missing it! I am excited about the moon-over the moon about it! I am going to hang it in my bedroom because I think a moon is the right thing for me to contemplate at night in my bedroom. I am currently redecorating my bedroom so I will post pics on the blog when it's done and Moon is in place!

I have been on the Tswwassen ferry a bazillion times. Wouldn't it be funny if we have seen each other?

I can't claim to have met or even seen Ms Munro. I am just hoping she left some of her talent vibes behind for me to absorb.

  3. i don´t use bloglovin but i missed some posts lately too - about a week or so. blogger seems to have its own mind this days.
for "sanitary" reasons i read only a few blogs regularly. safari has a feature where you can list the sides you want read, with tiny pictures. when the sites are updated then the pic has an dog-ear. but your pic (and others this days) had its dog-ear first time since days now. and looking up your blog there are 3 new posts.....
and posted comments on my blog i could see in my private "postet" list but not on the blog itself.
i think they never thought that we would make that much content and traffic so the servers are overloaded....... :-)
now i will have a look for the other 2 posts of you!

    1. Sanitary reasons? Well you should stay away from those dirty blogs! Mine is quite clean so do drop by! I would miss you if you didn't!

  4. You look so lovely sitting there in thoughts in your corner! <3
I have the same problem. Every day there are more blogs I want to visit and to leave a comment. It´s great that there are so many sites and ways (facebook, Google+, Bloglovin, Pinterest, Instagram....) to make lists with the favorite blogs but this is also my problem. I wished I have only ONE and when I have time I would visit each blog sequentially.
Right now I´m also just confused and have missed so many current posts of dear blogger friends.
Hope we can together find a better way :)

have a wonderful weekend my dear friend
    Dana :)

    1. Thank you, Dana! I think we need to arrange for more hours in the day so we can visit more blogs!

  5. I have that same problem! I just discovered my friend Lorena has been blogging regularly and her posts don't show up on my list so I thought she was absent. I feel so embarrassed and I missed her.

    1. Yes, I feel so awful when that happens to me because I would never ignore my friends! When you didn't know I was blogging I thought you weren't visiting because I had somehow offended you. I'm so glad that got sorted out!

  6. I love your self-portrait, Shawna! Great stuff.

I don't use Bloglovin' - I use Blogger to read anything I want. When you open your blog, click on the sign B in the upper left corner. It will bring you to the page from which you can manage your blog and also have an option to add any blogs you like. It has issues from time to time, but in general I am comfortable with their system. Hugses! :)

    1. Aww thanks, sweet friend! I have put the blogs I regularly read back onto my blogger reading list in the sidebar. One exception and I think you will know the one I mean. I will give Bloglovin' the cold shoulder for a day or two and see how it likes that!
      Hugses right back!

  7. I love your thoughtful photo. I lost my religion a long time ago, so I don't need to sit in the corner anymore.

I haven't had those huge problems with Blogger, but I've had posts show up in my reading list two days late, and yes, they do seem to come all at once sometimes. But I prefer it to the Blogger reading list because I can sort out all the unread ones - that's my main preference. I also follow some people on Google+, but then I don't check it very often. It's an imperfect science.

Commenting does take energy - I don't read and comment as much as I used to.

    1. I actually never had any to lose, but I do love that song! I often sit in the corner though.

I find there are things I like about the Blogger list and things I like about Bloglovin' so maybe I will just use both and between the two be better informed about new posts. Like you, I like being able to sort out the unread from the read. I haven't bothered with Google + though I know some people follow me that way. I figure I had better not get tangled in something else.
I appreciate very much that you find time to visit and comment here. It's always a pleasure to see you!

  8. I switched to Feedly after Bloglovin went down repeatedly in a short amount of time. I'm happy with it but it is a bit more effort to set up.

    1. Hi Autumn, how are you doing? I think you are one of my casualties on Bloglovin'. Sigh....well I'm nearly sorted out! Thanks for commenting and perhaps I should have a look at Feedly!

  9. That is weird. I haven't had any issues like that with Bloglovin' . Maybe you should try to create a new profile with them.

  10. You look very inquisitive, pondering the problems of Bloglovin! I don't use it, I occasionally look but I find it so much easier to use my sidebar which is automatically date updated - don't worry about writing comments - are you sketching another goth fairy? x x x

    1. I can't not write comments! That would be like walking past you and not speaking to you!
Yep, more Goth fairies. It gets addictive.

  11. Shall I rant? But of course!
I have problems with reading lists from time to time as well. The main thing with Blog Lovin' is that if I comment on anything from their daily updates list in my email box, my comments disappear. I have to remember to copy them, publish, wait for it disappear, comment again (paste) and then publish again. Some of my comments here have gone into another world. But, ah well. I use my Blogger Friend Connect list, seems to work off and on. I like your contemplative photo. (of course I had to paste this comment)

    1. Of course you must rant! Oh that must be so annoying! I don't use any e-mail update features because I kind of hate messing with e-mail and I'm bad about not checking it. I would like an e-mail notification if someone has replied to me personally but I don't want to be notified any time any person comments on a blog where I have commented. That's just too much. I possibly miss some replies made to me but I do try to check for them. Thanks for making the effort to visit me and comment. It's much appreciated!

  12. I just use the reading list on my Blogger dashboard ... it DEFINITELY has problems from time to time ... but when it's working it works fine ;0)

    1. From my previous experience I'd say it has fewer problems than bloglovin' does. I'm now using both because life is never simple.

  13. Don't use Bloglovin, just my Blogger list, which is occasionally slow to update but usually OK. Getting behind with comments can feel a bit overwhelming, but if I get myself a coffee and settle down to it with a will, I always feel better for catching up!
Lovely pic of you, btw. xxx

  14. Late to the party here, but I have to also recommend Feedly. I switched to that when Google Reader disappeared, and I love it. I group my watched blogs into categories so if I feel Crafty one day, I can read all about that, or catch up on my Style or Local news.
And it seems to grab all platforms (Blogger, WordPress, etc.) with equal ease and speed.

I love the contemplative photo of you. I'm particularly charmed by the sharp focus of the elbows on the table while your upper body is ever so slightly blurred. A good visual for thinking and doing. Or dreaming and being grounded.
